President Bola Tinubu is expected to make a final decision on the new minimum wage on Thursday, according to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.
The President will meet with organized Labour on Thursday before determining an amount to be sent to the National Assembly.
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has already discussed the national minimum wage and will invite organized Labour for a meeting this week. According to Idris, President Tinubu is open to increasing the minimum wage but is exercising caution to avoid triggering an uncontrollable inflationary trend.
“The President is not averse to increasing the national minimum wage, but he is being careful so as not to plunge the country into an unimaginable inflationary trend,” Idris explained.
This development comes as Nigerians eagerly await a decision on the minimum wage, which has been a topic of discussion for some time. The meeting between the President and organized Labour on Thursday is expected to be crucial in determining the next step in the process.
