In a significant political move, former President of the Senate, Anyim Pius Anyim, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Anyim announced his decision at the Pa Oruta Ngele Township Abakaliki during the Grand Finale of the APC Local Government election Campaign on Saturday.
The former Senate President was joined by other notable personalities, including former State and National Assembly members, former Governorship candidate of Labour Party, Edwin Nkwegu, Senator Obinna Ọgba, and thousands of their supporters. The event was attended by top APC leaders, including National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, Chairman of Progressive Governors Forum, Governor Hope Uzodinma, Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, and Minister of Works, David Umahi.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Works, David Umahi, commended Anyim for his support during the 2023 elections and thanked President Bola Tinubu for his support during his legal battles. He emphasized the need for unity and support for the development of the southeast region.
Anyim assured the National Chairman that Ebonyi State is united under one political family and pledged to work together to strengthen democracy in the country. The event marked a significant shift in the political landscape of the region, with the APC poised to become the dominant party in the southeast.
