The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that 88 tertiary institutions conducted admissions outside of the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), a practice deemed illegal, null, and void.
According to JAMB, CAPS was introduced in 2017 to centralize and automate admission processes between candidates and institutions. Despite warnings in 2020 and 2024, many institutions continue to flout the rules.
In a recent report, JAMB scored institutions on their compliance with admission guidelines, awarding 10 points for full compliance, 5 points for partial compliance, and 0 points for non-compliance. A total of 88 institutions failed to comply with conducting full admissions on CAPS.
The list of non-compliant institutions includes University of Uyo, University of Abuja, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Yaba College of Technology, and Plateau State University, among others.
