The ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip has claimed the lives of 32 more people, according to the health ministry, as Israeli strikes continue to pound the territory.
The latest casualties bring the total death toll to hundreds, with many more injured.
The strikes, which have been intense and widespread, have targeted various locations across the territory, including Gaza City, Nuseirat refugee camp, Khan Yunis, and Rafah. Hamas media reported over 70 air strikes, with Israeli forces confirming ongoing operations in Rafah.
The Israeli military claims to have eliminated numerous terrorists and dismantled terrorist infrastructure, but the strikes have also resulted in significant civilian casualties. The health ministry reported that the majority of the dead are children and women.
The conflict, which began in October, has seen Hamas militants seize captives, including Israeli soldiers, sparking a war that has ravaged the territory. Talks are ongoing for a truce and hostage-release deal, but a lasting resolution remains elusive.
The United Nations has expressed concern over the humanitarian crisis, with up to 350,000 people displaced in Gaza City alone. The city’s eastern Shujaiya neighbourhood has been left in ruins, with 60 bodies found under the rubble. Civil Defence officials have described the area as a “disaster zone”, with 85% of buildings uninhabitable.
