The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has alleged that Governor Ademola Adeleke is using police officers to intimidate, arrest, and dehumanize its members.
In a statement by Chairman Tajudeen Lawal, the party claimed that leading lights of the party have been invited and investigated by the police over frivolous reasons, with the intention of caging the opposition.
The party cited the example of Akin Adeyi, a chieftain of the APC, who has been invited by the Zone 11 Command of the Nigeria Police multiple times based on petitions written by a political functionary in the governor’s administration. Lawal appealed to the Inspector-General of Police to prevail on the Zone 11 and State Command to resist being used by political gladiators.
However, the Osun Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, Sunday Bisi, reacted by advising the opposition to purge itself and come to terms with the law. Bisi emphasized that Osun State is a federating unit of Nigeria where cyberstalking and cyberbullying are serious offenses, and offenders can face penalties such as imprisonment and fines. He called on the police authorities to refuse to succumb to the evil antics of the APC.
