In a historic moment, Sir Keir Starmer, leader of the Labour Party, has been officially appointed Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
Following an audience with King Charles at Buckingham Palace, Starmer’s appointment was confirmed, marking a new chapter in UK politics.
Arriving at the palace alongside his wife, Lady Victoria Starmer, the Labour leader was greeted by the King and Queen’s principal private secretary, Sir Clive Alderton. After the meeting, Starmer emerged as the UK’s new Prime Minister, succeeding Rishi Sunak who tendered his resignation earlier.
Buckingham Palace released a statement, saying, “The King received in Audience The Right Honourable Sir Keir Starmer MP today and requested him to form a new Administration. Sir Keir accepted His Majesty’s offer and kissed hands upon his appointment as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury.”
Starmer is expected to deliver a speech on the steps of No10, addressing party members and the nation. His appointment marks a significant milestone, as he becomes the third prime minister of King Charles’ reign.
