The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) leadership has dissociated itself from a letter allegedly written by its national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, instructing party lawmakers to criticize President Bola Tinubu and the federal government over the Kano Emirate crisis.
In a letter addressed to the Senate President and Chairman of the National Assembly, the party denounced Kwankwaso’s unilateral decision, stating that it was not authorized by the party’s leadership.
The letter, signed by NNPP National Chairman, Agbo Gilbert Major, and National Secretary, Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday, urged the National Assembly’s leadership to disregard the move.
The party reiterated its focus on development and the wellbeing of Nigerians, adding that the matter is before competent courts of law and any interference by the National Assembly would complicate the situation.
The NNPP also emphasized the need for vigilance and enhanced security in Kano State to avoid a breakdown of law and order.
A pro-democracy group, the Progressives League of Youth Voters, had earlier exposed the letter, alleging that Kwankwaso instructed NNPP lawmakers to take action against the federal government.
The party’s leadership has now distanced itself from the letter, stating that it is not interested in engaging in controversy with federal agencies, particularly security institutions.
