The Labour Party (LP) has called for disciplinary action against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over his threat to prevent the re-election of Senator Ireti Kingibe in 2027.
Wike, who is also a presidential appointee, had criticized Kingibe for speaking out against his developmental works in the capital city.
LP Chairman in the FCT, Peter Dugwu, stated that Wike’s remarks were an attack on the party and its representative, Senator Kingibe. Dugwu emphasized that the LP would respond to Wike’s threats during the upcoming Area Councils’ election in the FCT, setting the stage for the 2027 general election.
Similarly, the national chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, condemned Wike’s comments as verbal violence, noting that he had no authority to prevent other politicians from being re-elected. Chief Chekwas Okorie, a leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), urged public officials to put aside their differences and work together for the betterment of the FCT.
