The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Zamfara State Council, has given the state government an ultimatum to implement the ₦70,000 national minimum wage by the end of November 2024.
Failure to comply will lead to an indefinite industrial action, effectively shutting down the state from December 1, 2024.
In a communique signed by the State chairman of NLC, Comrade Sani Halliru, the council condemned the refusal of the Zamfara State Government to implement the 2024 National Minimum Wage Act. This decision, the communique stated, is a betrayal of workers’ rights amid rising economic challenges.
The NLC Zamfara State Council has the full backing of all affiliate unions in the state, who have endorsed the ultimatum. The council remains committed to advocating for the welfare of workers and ensuring that the government fulfills its obligations.
“Justice delayed is justice denied. Nigerian workers deserve their rightful wages, and we will not relent until the minimum wage is fully implemented in Zamfara State,” the communique read.
The NLC has directed all workers in Zamfara State to prepare for the impending industrial action, emphasizing that it is a necessary step to secure their rights and improve their livelihoods.
In a show of solidarity, the NLC Council stands firmly with Nigerian workers in their fight for justice and dignity. The council views the failure to implement the minimum wage as a blatant disregard for the law, morality, and the well-being of workers who continue to endure immense hardship.
