The Government of Equatorial Guinea has taken legal action against Baltasar Engonga, former Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency, over allegations of misconduct related to a sex tape scandal.
Engonga’s actions have been condemned by the government as a “violation of the ethical and moral values of noble Equatorial Guinean society”.
The scandal came to light after several videos went viral, showing Engonga engaging in sexual relations with multiple women, including married individuals ¹. The footage, reportedly recorded with consent, features encounters with high-profile individuals, such as his brother’s wife, his cousin, and the sister of the President of Equatorial Guinea.
The government has initiated a thorough investigation into Engonga’s actions through the State Attorney General’s Office. Minister of Information, Press, and Culture Jerónimo Osa Osa stated that the government would assess various parameters, including prior consent, violations of privacy, and damage to individuals’ honor and prestige.
Engonga’s arrest was followed by the discovery of over 400 sex tapes involving wives of notable individuals in the country. The government has since ordered the installation of surveillance cameras in courts and ministries to curb “indecent and illicit acts” and announced the suspension of officials involved in the scandal.
Vice-President Teodoro Mangue emphasized that any official found engaging in sexual acts at work would be sanctioned, citing a “flagrant violation of the code of conduct.” The government’s actions aim to hold Engonga and his accomplices accountable before the law and restore the country’s tarnished reputation.
