Controversial cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has been released on bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Bobrisky was arrested on Thursday night at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos while attempting to board an Amsterdam-bound KLM flight. He claimed to have sustained injuries during the arrest, alerting his followers on social media with a distress message: “Nigerians, help me, EFCC just arrested me. I’m badly injured.”
The EFCC had been investigating Bobrisky over allegations of bribery, following a voice note shared by social critic Martins Otse, aka VeryDarkMan. In the recording, Bobrisky allegedly claimed to have bribed EFCC officers with N15 million to drop money laundering charges against him.
A source close to the matter revealed that Bobrisky denied the bribery allegations in his confessional statement at the EFCC headquarters. “He denied everything about releasing money to any official as a bribe… He said nobody requested money from him in the EFCC and he didn’t give anyone anything,” the source stated.
EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed Bobrisky’s release on Saturday but declined further comments.
The development has sparked mixed reactions from Nigerians, with some calling for transparency in the EFCC’s investigation and others criticizing Bobrisky’s alleged involvement in bribery.
