The Nigeria Police Force has reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring justice for Mr. Stephen Abuwatseya, a Bolt driver who was recently assaulted by a federal lawmaker in the Federal Capital Territory.
The incident, which occurred on October 27th at the lawmaker’s residence in Zamfara Crescent, Maitama, Abuja, has sparked widespread outrage and demands for justice from concerned Nigerians.
The lawmaker, representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency in Abia State, was captured in a viral video physically assaulting the Bolt driver, who was delivering a package to his residence.
In response to the public outcry, the Nigeria Police Force took to its official Facebook page on Wednesday morning to reassure the public of its commitment to justice. The post stated, “the Nigeria Police Force has commenced an impartial investigation into the matter and wishes to reaffirm its commitment and readiness to ensure justice is served accordingly”.
This development comes on the heels of the lawmaker’s public apology for his actions during a House plenary session on Tuesday.
The police force’s vow to ensure justice is a welcome step towards addressing the growing concerns about violence and abuse of power in Nigeria. As the investigation unfolds, Nigerians will be watching closely to see if justice is indeed served.
