The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has handed the Super Eagles a significant boost in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, awarding them three points and three goals following the abandoned match against Libya.
According to the CAF decision, the Nigerian team now sits comfortably at the top of their group with 10 points from four matches, a four-point cushion ahead of nearest challengers, Benin Republic.
The development has brightened the Super Eagles’ chances of early qualification for the 2025 AFCON, scheduled to hold in Morocco in December 2025. A draw against Benin in their next encounter in Abidjan next month will seal their spot in the tournament.
Meanwhile, the Libya Football Federation has been sanctioned with a $50,000 fine, payable within 60 days of notification of the decision. This comes as Libya struggles at the bottom of the group with just one point.
The CAF verdict has effectively positioned the Super Eagles for a smooth sail to the 2025 AFCON, and football fans across the country are eagerly anticipating the team’s next outing.
With their fate firmly in their hands, the Super Eagles will aim to secure the needed point against Benin to confirm their participation in the continental showpiece.
