The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has located the fault responsible for the power outage on the Ugwuaji-Apir 330-kilovolt (kV) double circuit transmission line, which affected the North-East, North-West, and parts of North-Central regions.
The fault was discovered in the Igumale area of Benue State, specifically a snapped 330kV transmission line in the swampy forest. TCN’s linesmen identified the issue at 5 pm on Wednesday.
According to Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, “Having made the discovery earlier in the evening of Wednesday, arrangements are already ongoing to mobilise equipment and materials that would be moved to the site of the incident to commence repair works.”
Challenges and Solutions
The difficult terrain poses a challenge, but TCN is taking measures to address this:
– A bulldozer and materials will be transported from the Enugu Regional office to the incident site.
– A Hiab vehicle will be deployed to Igumale to facilitate proper tensioning of the transmission line.
Two initial teams failed to identify the cause, but TCN remained committed to resolving the issue. Mbah reassured, “TCN is urgently organising the necessary materials for the repair work.”
Mbah expressed gratitude to the government and electricity consumers in the affected areas for their patience, reiterating TCN’s dedication to restoring power supply promptly.
“The fault area of the transmission line, which measures about one span, was found to be a snapped 330kV transmission line located in the swampy forest of Igumale,” Mbah said.
TCN aims to commence repair works on Thursday, working diligently to restore power to the affected regions.
