Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has taken a bold step towards redemption, issuing a heartfelt apology to Apostle Johnson Suleman, Senior Pastor and General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries International.
In a statement shared on her Instagram account on Wednesday, Abubakar acknowledged her past remarks as “false and hurtful.” She expressed regret for the pain inflicted and pleaded for forgiveness from Apostle Suleman and his family.
“I am writing to you today to acknowledge the falsehoods I made against you on social media and to offer my sincere apology,” Abubakar’s letter reads. “After deep reflection and in order for my conscience to be in accord with God, I have realised the depth of the harm, pain, and distress caused by my lies.”
Abubakar admitted to making false allegations, damaging Apostle Suleman’s reputation, and causing harm to his family and ministry. She humbly sought forgiveness, recognizing her apology cannot undo the harm.
The apology comes after Abubakar alleged a romantic relationship with Apostle Suleman in 2022, prompting threats of legal action. The controversy escalated in 2023 with claims of pregnancy. However, a federal high court in Abuja ruled in favour of Apostle Suleman, ordering Abubakar to pay N10 million in damages for defamation.
Abubakar’s apology marks a significant turn in the controversy. Apostle Suleman has since responded, emphasizing forgiveness but also highlighting the importance of accountability.
The development has sparked conversations about the power of apology, forgiveness, and personal growth.
