A minor fire incident occurred at the Federal Ministry of Works headquarters in Abuja on Friday, causing panic among staff and visitors.
The incident happened shortly after workers resumed for the day and was attributed to a spark from a faulty circuit breaker on the ground floor.
According to Mohammed A. Ahmed, Director of Press and Public Relations, the fire was quickly contained, and no significant damage was done. “A minor fire incident occurred at 11:30 am at Block A of the Ministry. The incident was a result of a spark from a faulty circuit breaker in the electrical control room on the ground floor,” Ahmed confirmed.
The swift response of the Federal Fire Service team, led by Station Commander Mr. Kekai Bekebi, helped bring the situation under control. Fire extinguishers were deployed, and a successful evacuation exercise was carried out. Fortunately, no documents were lost, and no injuries or casualties were reported.
Mr. Aliyu Abdullahi, Director of Human Resource Management, commended the staff for their calm and orderly conduct during the incident. “No loss of document, no injuries, and no casualties were recorded,” he stated.
Normal activities have since resumed at the ministry, with maintenance staff clearing debris and restoring order. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of regular maintenance and safety checks to prevent such occurrences in the future.
