The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has swiftly adapted to the Ondo State Government’s refusal to grant them access to Democracy Park, opting instead to launch their campaign rally on the bustling Oba Adesida-Oyemekun highway.
According to the state government, the PDP’s application for Democracy Park, submitted on October 11, 2024, was rejected due to a prior booking by another support group ¹. The government emphasized that Democracy Park is a revenue-generating property, open to all citizens who apply early and follow proper procedures.
“The M.K.O. Abiola Park (Democracy Park) is a revenue-generating property of the state government, open to all citizens and residents who apply early and follow the proper procedures to secure approval. Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is a refined gentleman, far too dignified to engage in the petty and indecent politicking the PDP has wrongfully accused him of.”
Ayo Fadaka, spokesman for the Ondo PDP Campaign Council, countered by attributing any potential rally-related inconveniences to the “irresponsibility of the pedestrian government”.
With the rally relocated to the Oba Adesida-Oyemekun highway, heavy vehicular traffic is anticipated. Security personnel are working to divert traffic from the area, ensuring a smooth and safe event.
The PDP’s adaptability in the face of adversity demonstrates their determination to connect with the people of Ondo State.
