Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has threatened to sue the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state for N5 billion over alleged defamatory statements.
The APC had accused a chieftain of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State of plotting a violent attack ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
A viral video referenced by the Osun APC’s Director of Media and Information, Mr. Kola Olabisi, showed an unnamed PDP chieftain discussing bombing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Osun State. The chieftain allegedly expressed concerns about the PDP’s potential loss in the 2026 election and suggested killing innocent people to implicate INEC.
Olabisi condemned the video and criticized Governor Adeleke and the PDP leadership for not denouncing it. He urged the Inspector-General of Police to investigate and bring those behind the alleged plan to justice.
In response, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Mr. Olawale Rasheed, described Olabisi’s statement as “irresponsible” and demanded a retraction. Rasheed stated that the governor had not planned or plotted any attack on INEC or electoral officials and threatened to sue Olabisi for N5 billion in damages if he failed to retract the allegations.
Rasheed also accused Osun APC operatives of boasting about violently rigging the 2026 governorship elections, stating that Governor Adeleke remained unbothered due to the Osun PDP’s strong support from the people.
