Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, has made public his intentions regarding the state’s governorship seat.
While presenting Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s ₦3 trillion budget proposal for 2025, Obasa clarified his stance on the matter.
According to Obasa, his primary focus is on advancing the All Progressives Congress (APC) through the Mandate Group, with his governorship ambition taking a backseat. “May I use this medium to sensitise us more on the need to build and sustain our party… We need to continue to mobilise people,” he stated.
Obasa also addressed critics, saying, “To the blackmailers… our intention is to promote our party on the platform of Mandate.” He further emphasized that becoming governor is not his top priority, adding, “Nevertheless, that does not mean I am too young or lack experience to run; whereas, those who have been before me are not better off”.
This development comes amidst speculation about President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi, potentially running for governor in 2027. Obasa’s declaration has sparked mixed reactions, with some critics questioning his qualifications and others praising his ambition.
