A social media critic, Martins Ortse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has lambasted the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, calling him “incompetent”.
Ortse’s criticism stems from Olukoyede’s inability to arrest former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, despite declaring him wanted since April.
The EFCC had filed charges against Bello for alleged N80.2 billion money laundering offenses during his tenure as governor ¹. Although Bello was placed on the wanted list, he reportedly presented himself to the anti-graft agency and was released. This development has sparked outrage, with many questioning the EFCC’s handling of the case.
In a post on Instagram, VeryDarkMan said: “Ola Olukoyede is a symbol of incompetence, mediocrity and I call him a clown. Why did I call him a clown? On April 18 he posted that Yahaya Bello is wanted by the EFCC. On the same day he posted that ‘N80.2bn money laundering, Bello’s absence stalls arraignment’.”
He further stated, “Since April EFCC posted that Yahaya Bello was wanted, it has been story upon story. Within all these, EFCC has been able to arraign over 100 people. The money from all these people is not up to N120 million unlike Bello.”
VeryDarkMan’s criticism echoes the sentiments of many Nigerians who are demanding accountability from the EFCC. The Kogi State House of Assembly has also called for Olukoyede’s removal, accusing him of unprofessional conduct.
As the controversy surrounding Olukoyede’s leadership continues to unfold, one thing is clear: the EFCC’s credibility is at stake.
