Nigeria’s representative, Chidimma Adetshina, has achieved a remarkable feat by finishing as the first runner-up at the 73rd Miss Universe Competition held in Mexico.
The thrilling finale saw Adetshina and Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, go head-to-head for the coveted crown.
The event, which took place at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, was described as one of the most electrifying in recent years. The organizers took to Instagram to acknowledge the nail-biting finale, stating, “The final two! Nigeria and Denmark, two incredible women, one unforgettable moment.”
Adetshina’s exceptional performance earned her widespread admiration from judges and audiences alike. Her achievement is a testament to her hard work and dedication, which has made Nigeria proud.
Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, ultimately emerged as the winner, taking over from Miss Universe 2023, Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua. Adetshina’s success is not an isolated incident; Nigeria has a rich history of producing talented beauty queens. On November 16, 2001, Agbani Darego became the first Black African to win the Miss World title at the age of 18.
Adetshina’s journey to the Miss Universe stage was not without controversy. She had earlier withdrawn from the Miss South Africa 2024 contest due to concerns over her nationality. However, she went on to represent Taraba State and win the title of Miss Universe Nigeria.
Nigerians have taken to social media to congratulate Adetshina on her impressive achievement. Her success serves as an inspiration to young women across the country, and her name is etched in the history books alongside other Nigerian beauty queens who have made a mark on the global stage.
