The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of all 20 local government areas and 236 wards in Ogun State.
Chairman Babatunde Osibodu announced the results during a live broadcast from OGSIEC headquarters in Abeokuta, revealing 613,156 votes cast across the state.
Nineteen parties contested, including Accord Party, African Action Congress, African Democratic Congress, Action Democratic Party, APC, Allied People’s Movement, All Progressives Grand Alliance, Labour Party, People’s Democratic Party, Social Democratic Party and Young Progressive Party.
Olalekan Shoyinka, Action Democratic Party’s chairmanship candidate for Abeokuta South, condemned the election. In a social media post, Shoyinka described the exercise as a “flagrant attack on democracy” and “daylight robbery of democratic principles.” He alleged the APC orchestrated the results, labeling it a “state-sanctioned coup and travesty”.
Shoyinka’s statement reads:
“Today’s local government elections in Ogun State have not just been marred by irregularities—they represent a blatant assault on democracy. What transpired was not an election conducted by OGSIEC but a premeditated APC operation to rob people of their mandate. The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission has bungled its credibility and trust.”
Other opposition parties, including the People’s Democratic Party and New Nigeria People’s Party, also disputed the results, citing widespread fraud, intimidation and harassment by APC.
