The Governing Council of Federal University, Lokoja, has taken a bold step in maintaining academic integrity by approving the dismissal of four lecturers found guilty of examination misconduct and sexual harassment.
This decision was made at the council’s Second Council Meeting, chaired by Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba.
The dismissal follows an investigation into allegations leveled against the lecturers last year. Ndoma-Egba commended the university management for adhering to due process, ensuring a thorough probe. “The council will not tolerate any unethical conduct in the university,” he emphasized.
The council sent a strong message to staff and lecturers, warning against any form of molestation or harassment. It encouraged students to speak out against any misconduct, promising that all allegations will be thoroughly investigated. Ndoma-Egba specifically urged the university to expedite pending cases, particularly one involving the Faculty of Science that has been making headlines.
This move by Federal University, Lokoja, aligns with a growing trend of Nigerian institutions taking a firm stance against misconduct. Recently, several universities, including Obafemi Awolowo University and University of Abuja, have dismissed lecturers found guilty of sexual misconduct. These actions aim to create a safer and more respectful academic environment.
