Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has made it clear that Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will not secure the party’s ticket in 2027.
Wike’s statement comes after Atiku claimed his economic blueprint would better serve Nigerians than the current administration’s approach.
During a live media parley in Abuja, Wike emphasized that Atiku had already presented his blueprint to Nigerians, who rejected him. “Did he not present it before Nigerians? Did Nigerians choose him? He is lobbying for another chance, but the chance will not be there. In which party? How can we rely on one man for so many years?” Wike questioned.
Wike drew parallels with the US, citing Donald Trump’s presidency. “Look at America. I’m sure you all did not support Trump, saying he is this, he is a racist, he is that. We cried, but Americans thought differently, made a decision for the good of their own country.” He further stated, “You presented your blueprint in 2023; Nigerians heard you clearly and said thank you, but it will not work. We will not support you.”
Interestingly, Atiku had earlier expressed his willingness to support Peter Obi if the PDP decides to zone the presidential ticket to the South-East in 2027. This development raises questions about the party’s direction and potential candidates for the upcoming elections.
As the 2027 presidential elections approach, the dynamics within the PDP and other parties will be closely watched.
