The Nigerian Army has announced that the remains of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, will be laid to rest on Friday, November 15, 2024.
President Bola Tinubu, who returned from his trip to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday evening, is expected to pay his last respects at the state burial.
The Director of Army Public Relations, Maj Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, revealed that the service of songs will hold on Thursday, November 14, while the funeral service will take place at the International Christian Centre, Abuja, on Friday, November 15. The late army chief will be buried at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja.
Maj Gen Kamal Yusuf, who led a delegation to condole with the Olobu of Ilobu, Oba Ashiru Olaniyan, described Lagbaja as a dedicated army officer who led his troops from the front. Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State also praised the late army chief, calling him a “bright star of Osun and Nigeria” whose service to the fatherland will never be forgotten.
The Nigerian Army has pledged to complete the four community projects initiated by Lagbaja in Ilobu, Ifon, and Erin Osun. This move has been commended by Governor Adeleke, who promised to follow up on the projects.
President Tinubu has declared a seven-day mourning period and ordered national flags to fly at half-mast across the country in honor of the departed army chief.
