The All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a final push ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Ondo State, with top chieftains arriving in Akure, the state capital.
Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), and Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti) are among those in attendance, alongside former Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu.
According to Sanwo-Olu’s media aide, Gboyega Akosile, the APC leaders are in Akure for the party’s mega rally, aimed at mobilizing support for incumbent Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. Akosile tweeted, “Flash: Governors @jidesanwoolu, his Ogun State counterpart @DapoAbiodunCON, Ekiti State Governor @biodunaoyebanji, former Deputy Governor of Edo State @phillips Shuaibu, Lagos GAC members and leaders of the @OfficialAPCNg storm Akure for the party’s and Governor @LuckyAiyedatiwa’s mega rally ahead of Saturday’s Governorship election.”
Aiyedatiwa, who took office following the death of his predecessor Rotimi Akeredolu in 2023, faces a stiff challenge from opposing candidates. The APC is pulling out all the stops to ensure his re-election.
Meanwhile, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2023 presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has sounded a warning against election malpractice. Atiku emphasized that the PDP will not tolerate any form of manipulation during Saturday’s poll. In a related development, Atiku has endorsed PDP candidate Agboola Ajayi, expressing confidence in his ability to bring positive change to Ondo State.
