A tragic incident in Akure, Ondo State, has led to the arrest of Prophetess Folashade Adekola after a woman, Jumoke Adesuwa, and her newborn died during childbirth at her church.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the arrest on Tuesday.
Adesuwa had gone into labor at the prophetess’s church in the Oke-Aro area, where complications arose, causing her to bleed profusely after delivering the child. The newborn died immediately. The incident only came to light after Adesuwa’s brother reported it to the police, prompting officers to take Adekola into custody.
Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, stated, “The case was reported by the deceased’s brother who informed us that his sister died after childbirth in the church. The prophetess is now in custody, and investigations are ongoing.” Adekola has been taken to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.
A family source revealed that Adesuwa’s husband was first informed of the childbirth by a call from the church.
