Senator Monday Okpebholo and his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, were sworn in as the new leaders of Edo State on Tuesday, marking the beginning of a fresh administration.
The Chief Justice of the state, Daniel Okungbowa, administered the oath of office to the duo at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
Okpebholo’s inauguration brings an end to the eight-year tenure of Governor Godwin Obaseki. The new governor won the September 21 governorship election with 291,667 votes, defeating Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who secured 247,274 votes.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Vice-President Kashim Shettima. Supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) filled the stadium, cheering throughout the oath-taking ceremony.
Okpebholo and Idahosa pledged to uphold the constitution, work within its dictates, and ensure the well-being of the people of Edo State. The new governor’s administration is expected to focus on improving security, social welfare, and creating greater opportunities for the citizens.
