Equatorial Guinea’s government has launched an investigation into hundreds of leaked sex videos allegedly featuring Baltasar Engonga, a high-ranking civil servant, with multiple women, including wives of prominent officials.
Vice-President Teodoro Mangue condemned the acts, stating that any official engaging in such behavior at work would face sanctions, citing a “flagrant violation of the code of conduct”.
In response to the scandal, the government has:
– Suspended officials involved in the scandal
– Ordered the installation of surveillance cameras in courts and ministries to combat “indecent and illicit acts”
– Reinforced security in all judicial offices
“The Executive has made this decision in the wake of the sexual videos that have gone viral on social media in recent days, which have denigrated the image of the country,” the government stated.
The scandal emerged during a fraud investigation against Engonga, Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency. Officials searched his house and office, discovering CDs containing sex tapes with various married women, including high-profile individuals.
The leaked videos have sparked widespread outrage, with many calling for accountability. The incident has been described as the biggest sex scandal in Equatorial Guinea and possibly Africa.
