The All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a scathing attack on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, accusing him of attempting to undermine President Bola Tinubu’s reform policies.
According to Felix Morka, APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Atiku has been “restless” since his electoral loss in 2023 and has resorted to gaslighting Nigerians, inciting outrage, and fueling street protests.
Atiku had earlier stated that Nigerians were seeking his counsel on addressing the country’s challenges and urged President Tinubu’s government to consider his ideas. However, the APC dismissed Atiku’s policy prescription as a rehash of failed approaches that brought Nigeria to its knees during the PDP’s rule.
The APC criticized Atiku’s gradualist approach to subsidy removal and foreign exchange reforms, arguing that it would only benefit opportunists and cronies at the expense of the Nigerian people. “Atiku’s policy offering starkly failed to acknowledge complex contradictions, past mistakes, and the extreme urgency of the moment,” the party stated.
In a strongly worded statement, the APC emphasized President Tinubu’s commitment to implementing bold and effective policies that address Nigeria’s challenges. “President Tinubu’s reform agenda, tough as it may be, is required to build a strong, resilient, vibrant, prosperous, and sustainable economy for present and future generations of Nigerians.”
The APC concluded that Atiku’s relentless condemnation of the administration’s policies for partisan gain is “hypocrisy taken too far” and urged him to display more statesmanship as a former Vice President of the Federal Republic.
