Rimazonte Ezekiel, counsel to the Nigerian government, has sparked controversy by claiming that all EndBadGovernance protesters arraigned at the Federal High Court on Friday were adults.
This statement comes amid widespread outrage over the arraignment of protesters, many of whom were reportedly minors.
In a video statement, Ezekiel asserted that most of the suspects were married men and university graduates, emphasizing that none were minors. He stated, “These boys that we brought to the court today, all of them are adults. Most of them are married men; none of them is a minor.” Ezekiel also revealed that the suspects were arrested in Kaduna and Zaria.
However, eyewitnesses reported that one of the minors arraigned collapsed before the trial commenced, casting doubt on Ezekiel’s claims. Many have expressed concerns about the government’s handling of the protests and the treatment of the protesters.
The counsel justified the government’s actions, saying, “These young boys are trying to destabilize Nigeria using the Russian flag and other countries; calling on the military to remove our President. Is it fair?” He emphasized that everyone is enjoying their fundamental rights and free movement in the country.
