In his apology statement, Ikwechegh acknowledged his behavior was unacceptable and fell short of the standards expected of a public official. “As a public servant, I recognize the trust placed in me by my constituents and the Nigerian people. My behavior fell short of the standards expected of me, and for that, I am truly sorry”. He expressed regret for the harm and embarrassment caused to Abuwatseya, his constituents, and the public.

He called on Nigerians to join him in fostering a culture of respect, tolerance, and understanding, emphasizing the need to build a society where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
The police invited Ikwechegh for interrogation at the Maitama Divisional Headquarters and criticized him for involving the Inspector General of Police’s name in the incident. The incident has sparked public outcry, with many demanding accountability.
