The All Progressives Congress (APC) has fired back at opposition parties criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s recent cabinet reshuffle.
In an exclusive interview with The PUNCH, APC National Publicity Director Bala Ibrahim defended the President’s move, saying it deserves commendation.
Tinubu discharged five ministers, appointed seven, and changed designations for 10 others. The discharged ministers include Uju-Ken Ohanenye, Lola Ade-John, Prof Tahir Mamman, Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo, and Dr Jamila Bio Ibrahim.
Opposition parties described the reshuffle as a distraction from the administration’s inadequacy and incompetence. The Peoples Democratic Party’s Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, called it a domestic arrangement to distract the masses. The Social Democratic Party’s National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, said the government was paying lip service to Nigerians’ call for improvement.
Ibrahim countered that opposition criticism stemmed from frustration over snubbed lobbying efforts. “They’re not being sincere… Changes in the cabinet are normal. The whole idea is to reduce duplication of responsibilities and cut the cost of governance,” he said.
