The All Progressives Congress (APC) is poised to take over Rivers State, according to National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje.
He made this declaration at an event in Abuja on Thursday, emphasizing the party’s plan to rebuild and reposition its Rivers State chapter.
Ganduje’s statement came as Dawari Ibietela George, the 2023 governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA), officially rejoined the APC. The leaders discussed rebuilding the party’s chapter in Rivers State to better serve the people and the country. Ganduje highlighted the party’s commitment to embracing diverse interests while ensuring fairness.
Ganduje welcomed George, describing him as a “big fish” and commending his political acumen. He expressed confidence in George’s ability to strengthen the party’s influence and assured him that a robust structure would be established to accommodate him and other returning members.
“Rivers State will be completely APC. You are now equal members with every other member of the party. We are bent on widening democracy in the country,” Ganduje said.
This development comes amid the ongoing dispute between Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now serving as FCT Minister under the APC-led government, over control of the party’s structure in the state. Recall that Tonye Cole was previously endorsed as the APC’s governorship candidate in Rivers State for the 2023 elections.
