The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed that essential food items have experienced significant price hikes in September 2024.
According to the NBS’s Selected Food Prices Watch report, the average price of 1kg of brown beans skyrocketed by 281.97% to N2,738.59, up from N716.97 in September 2023.

– _1kg Tomato_: Up 152.94% to N1,430.87
The report also highlighted monthly increases, with brown beans rising by 6.37%, eggs by 8.46%, and bread by 4.68% compared to August 2024 prices ¹. These price surges have undoubtedly affected Nigerian households, making it challenging for citizens to afford basic food items.
