President Bola Tinubu’s administration has taken a bold step towards restructuring the federal ministries, scrapping the Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of Sports Development.
This decision was made during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja.
*Ministry Restructuring Details*
– The Niger Delta Ministry will be replaced by the Ministry of Regional Development, which will oversee regional development commissions, including:
– Niger Delta Development Commission
– North West Development Commission
– South West Development Commission
– North East Development Commission
– The National Sports Commission will take over the responsibilities of the Ministry of Sports Development
– The Ministry of Tourism will be merged with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy
According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, “there will now be a Ministry of Regional Development to oversee all the regional development commissions…”. This move is expected to streamline development efforts across the regions and eliminate duplications.
The FEC meeting, which was extended to accommodate discussions on outstanding memos, also touched on other critical issues, including the implementation of the 2024 budget and power infrastructure. The restructuring is seen as a positive move, as it aligns with President Tinubu’s vision for a more efficient and effective government.
