Former House of Representatives member Farouk Lawan has been released from Kuje Prison after completing his five-year jail term.
Lawan was convicted in 2021 for accepting a $500,000 bribe from businessman Femi Otedola.
The Supreme Court affirmed the five-year jail term in January, dismissing Lawan’s appeal as “without merit.” The Court of Appeal had previously upheld the sentencing in 2022.
Lawan was tried at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on a three-count charge. He was found guilty on count three and sentenced to five years.
A video surfaced on Tuesday showing Lawan’s release from Kuje Prison, confirming his freedom.
