The Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a drastic step towards expelling former Governor Ayodele Fayose from the party.
This decision was made due to Fayose’s public endorsement of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s second-term bid, despite Oyebanji being a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Fayose, through his aide Lere Olayinka, brushed off the recommendation, questioning Dare Adeleke’s authority as caretaker committee chairman. “We will soon know between him (Adeleke) and Fayose who owns the politics of Ekiti,” Olayinka said. “Does he (Adeleke) have that kind of power? No, he does not. His position as CTC chairman is being challenged in court”.
Adeleke, however, remains resolute, stating that Fayose’s actions are “a direct affront to the values and unity of our great party.” He emphasized that Fayose’s support for Oyebanji is misleading and gives a distorted image of what the PDP stands for.
The PDP has set up a disciplinary committee, headed by Chief Tom Ikimi, to address Fayose’s alleged anti-party activities. Adeleke urged Fayose to officially defect from the party rather than openly aligning himself with an opposing party.
Adeleke encouraged party members to remain focused and avoid distractions, emphasizing the need for a renewed and vibrant PDP that serves the people of Ekiti with integrity and purpose. He urged the people to reject the cycle of neglect and choose leadership that prioritizes their well-being and development.
