Nigerian international Victor Boniface escaped serious injury in a car accident on Sunday, hours after guiding Bayer Leverkusen to a 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.
According to German tabloid Bild, Boniface was a passenger in the car that collided with a truck on the A3 highway between Bad Camberg and Idstein. The driver lost control due to fatigue, causing the Mercedes to overturn.
The 23-year-old Super Eagles striker shared footage and photos of the smashed car on social media, writing, “God is the greatest” and “God says my time hasn’t come.”
Leverkusen confirmed Boniface suffered only minor injuries to his hand. The striker and driver were treated and examined in the hospital before returning safely to Cologne.
Boniface’s narrow escape has brought relief to fans and the football community, especially after his eventful week. The striker had endured a chaotic trip with Nigeria’s national team to Libya, including a 15-hour airport delay.
Leverkusen hopes to have Boniface back for their UEFA Champions League away fixture against Brest on Wednesday. The striker’s safety and swift recovery have eased concerns about his continued vital role in the team’s impressive campaign.
