Former Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has lifted the lid on Neymar’s shocking transfer decision, revealing the Brazilian ignored his advice to join the Premier League instead of Paris Saint-Germain.
In 2017, Neymar made a stunning €222 million switch to PSG, a transfer record that still stands today. However, Suarez believes his former teammate made a grave mistake.
Suarez recounted his conversation with Neymar, saying, “[We said] ‘Ney, if you want to win it all, stay with us [at Barcelona]’. We said ‘Ney, at least go to England, Manchester City. Their football is better, but in France…'”
Suarez firmly believes Neymar would have won the Ballon d’Or if he had remained at Barcelona. “I think if Neymar had stayed at Barcelona, he would have won the Ballon d’Or, for sure.”
During his six-season tenure at PSG, Neymar scored 118 goals and provided 77 assists in 173 games, despite struggling with injuries.
The Brazilian’s departure ended the iconic MSN trio, comprising Suarez, Neymar, and Lionel Messi, which terrorized defenses in Spain and Europe, securing eight titles, including the continental treble.
After leaving PSG, Neymar joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal last summer, marking a new chapter in his illustrious career.
