In his annual address to the Angolan Parliament in Luanda, President Joao Lourenco made a passionate plea for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
He emphasized the need for an independent Palestinian state, citing the alarming daily death toll of civilians in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon as unacceptable.
Lourenco stressed that Angola supports efforts to find a lasting peace in the region, rooted in respect for the United Nations Charter, non-aggression principles, border inviolability, and state sovereignty. He highlighted the importance of ending the occupation of Palestinian territories and creating an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.
“The international community must unite to stop these wars, protect innocent lives, and promote peace and security in the Middle East, given the global repercussions of these conflicts,” Lourenco urged. This statement echoes his previous calls for international cooperation and peaceful resolution of conflicts.
As a country that has experienced its own share of conflicts, Angola understands the value of peace and reconciliation. Under Lourenco’s leadership, Angola has been actively engaged in promoting peace and stability in the region, including mediating conflicts between neighboring countries.
