Bode George, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has made explosive claims about President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In an interview on Arise TV’s Morning Show, George revealed that Tinubu sent his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, to beg him not to leave Nigeria after Tinubu’s emergence as president.
George claimed that Tinubu’s team was trying to pacify him because they had wronged him in the past. This comes after George threatened to vacate Nigeria if Tinubu won the 2023 presidential election.
George also addressed the ongoing crisis within the PDP, particularly between Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State. Despite the tension, George described Wike as “like a son” to him.
He recalled speaking with Ayu, the party chairman, about the division within the party. “Wike is like a son to me… I spoke with Ayu that you made a public statement that if the presidential candidate comes from the north you would resign, but now you are manipulating it, and that was where the crisis started.”
George emphasized that having the presidential candidate and party chairman from the same zone is an anomaly that would naturally elicit a reaction from people. He also clarified that his life is not centered around Wike.
George attempted to broker peace between Wike and Fubara by arranging a meeting to discuss their differences. Fubara shared his side of the story during the meeting in Port Harcourt, while Wike promised to meet with George upon his return from China.
This development highlights the complexities within the PDP and the struggles of its key figures to navigate their relationships and interests. As the situation unfolds, Nigerians will be watching to see how these leaders address their differences and work towards a united front.
