The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State has kicked off its state congress, determined to reestablish itself as a formidable force and reclaim power in the 2027 elections.
Senator Bello Hayyatu Gwarzo, the party’s Northwest Zonal National Vice Chairman, expressed confidence in the party’s triumph, citing its solid foundation and unity.
Gwarzo emphasized the importance of a united party, stating, “We are trying to create a solid foundation that will revive the party in the state and across the nation. We want to ensure all hands are on deck, which will guarantee our victory in the forthcoming elections to deliver the dividend of democracy to the people as evident from our records.” He also noted that the PDP in Kano remains a single, unified entity, devoid of factions.
Halilu Mazagani, chairman of the electoral panel, commended the state-level party officials for a successful congress. He attributed the smooth conduct to the party’s efforts to resolve internal differences, paving the way for a stronger opposition capable of defeating the ruling party. Mazagani assured that the PDP is working tirelessly to ensure unity and mobilize support for the 2027 elections. “I can confidently say the people will vote for us. So it is now left to us to present them with credible candidates as we have done before and we wish to improve on that.”
Dr. Umar Musa, representing former Governor Sen. Ibrahim Shekarau, echoed the sentiment, stating that the party will produce a winning team capable of matching any opponent in the elections.
However, not all factions within the party share the same optimism. A rival faction, led by Sadiq Aminu Wali, has rejected the ward congresses, citing procedural irregularities and lack of transparency. This internal conflict may pose a challenge to the PDP’s unity and electoral success in 2027.
