Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President, has taken to Twitter to express his discontent with President Bola Tinubu’s handling of the fuel subsidy crisis, referring to him as “TPain” in a scathing critique.
Atiku attributes Nigeria’s current economic woes to the Tinubu administration’s “haphazard and disingenuous approach” to fuel subsidy management.
“The haphazard and disingenuous approach of the current administration to fuel subsidy management has been the reason we are in this current economic crisis in the country. As things stand, there will be no let up in the escalating inflation rate, which is drowning the material well-being of Nigerians,” Atiku stated.
He further lamented that despite the growing hardships, Tinubu seems unfazed by the plight of the citizens. “It is even more worrying that T-pain is undisturbed by the hardship in the country,” Atiku wrote.
The nickname “TPain” is a play on the American rapper and producer T-Pain’s name, sparked by frustrations over the rising cost of living under Tinubu’s administration. According to Peoples Gazette, the term first surfaced on social media in April 2024 but gained traction around September 16, after a user on X used it to discuss the President’s visit to Maiduguri.
This development highlights the growing dissatisfaction with the government’s economic policies, with many Nigerians taking to social media platforms like X and Instagram to express their discontent. The fuel subsidy crisis has been a contentious issue, with experts calling for urgent reforms to address the country’s economic challenges.
