The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has retracted his previous statement that Christians who don’t pay tithe might not make it to heaven.
Addressing youths at the ongoing RCCG Youth Convention in Ogun State, Adeboye described his earlier comment as a “mistake.”
“I apologise for saying ‘If you don’t pay tithe, you might not make it to heaven.’ I’m sorry, that’s wrong, and it’s not in the Bible,” Adeboye clarified. He emphasized the biblical prerequisites for making heaven: “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see God.”
Adeboye shared a personal experience that challenged his views on tithing. He recounted meeting a businessman who pledged N3.5 million at a Kenneth Hagin conference, revealing that he started his company with $500 and promised God 90% of the profits. The businessman’s turnover now stands at $50 million.
“I’ve been increasing my own tithe steadily. I’ve not reached 90% yet, but I’m far from 10%,” Adeboye said, illustrating the importance of generosity and individual commitment to giving.
Adeboye’s apology and clarification spark a broader conversation on the nature of faith, giving, and spiritual growth. As the RCCG Youth Convention continues, attendees are encouraged to reflect on their values and relationship with God.
