A devastating flood has swept through Ogbomoso, Oyo State, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
The disaster was triggered by heavy rainfall that pounded the city between Wednesday and Thursday morning.
The Ora River, which runs through the eastern part of Ogbomoso, burst its banks, causing widespread flooding in nearby communities. Areas severely affected include Isale Ora and Aduinin.
A Cherubim and Seraphim church building and a wooden store for selling planks near the riverbank were completely submerged by the floodwaters. Several other properties were also damaged, leaving residents to count their losses.
Efforts are underway to assess the full extent of the damage and provide relief to affected residents. Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution and remain vigilant, as the floodwaters may take time to recede.
As the community begins the recovery process, concerns are being raised about the need for improved drainage systems and flood mitigation measures to prevent similar disasters in the future.
