Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged Nigerian leaders and citizens to reflect on the country’s current state, emphasizing its urgent need for rescue.
Obi highlighted Nigeria’s struggles in economic, social, and security sectors, citing widespread poverty, a broken education system, and overwhelming debt. He also noted the alarming 18 million out-of-school children and poor global rankings in security, corruption, and rule of law.
Obi compared Nigeria to countries that gained independence around the same time, pointing out that while others have made significant strides, Nigeria appears to be in decline.
Despite the bleak assessment, Obi offered a hopeful vision for the future, calling on Nigerians to recommit to building a nation free from tribal disunity, religious disharmony, and corruption.
“We must make a solemn commitment to build a nation that is truly independent of the state capture that has dragged it into failure and kept its people in suffering,” Obi urged.
