A devastating incident occurred at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library zoo in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Saturday, resulting in the death of 35-year-old lion handler, Babaji Daule.
According to Omolola Odutola, spokesman for the Ogun State Police Command, Daule’s fatal mistake was forgetting to secure the lion’s enclosure before feeding it.
The Bauch State-born handler’s oversight allowed the lion to escape and attack him, inflicting fatal neck injuries. The lion’s ferocity was eventually brought to an end when it was shot to release its grip on Daule.
The victim’s body has been taken to the mortuary at Ijaye General Hospital. This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to safety protocols when interacting with wild animals.
