Nigerian music sensation, Davido, has shared his experiences with grief and how his faith has been a source of strength in the face of tragedy.
The singer, who has lost loved ones including his mother, Victoria Imade Adeleke, and son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, spoke candidly in an interview with Mystery Fashionist in New York.
Davido attributed his resilience to his faith, saying, “I have lost a lot of people. I lost my mum at the age of eleven. I’m just being strong. I did a song called ‘Stand Strong.’ I feel like strength and obviously, my faith has kept me going.”
The singer also addressed common misconceptions about himself. “I think sometimes, people think I am not approachable. Another misconception is that people also think I am too accessible.” Davido clarified that his upbringing in a large family has made him comfortable with being around people.
He acknowledged the divine origin of his talent and success, stating, “My talent and success is God-given.” This humility has endeared Davido to fans and cemented his position as a respected figure in the music industry.
Davido’s experiences with loss, including the passing of associates Tagbo, DJ Olu, Obama DMW, and photographer Fortune, have tested his resolve. Yet, he remains steadfast, using his music as a testament to his strength and faith.
