Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has taken bold steps to alleviate the financial burden on public servants in the state.
In a bid to reduce transportation costs, Adeleke has approved a reduced workweek for civil servants. Those on grade levels 01 to 10 will now work three days a week, while those on grade levels 12 to 17 will work four days a week.
This decision, outlined in a circular from the Office of the Head of Service, is in line with Adeleke’s commitment to workers’ well-being and a response to the current economic climate. Essential personnel, such as medical staff, security officers, and accounting officers, are exempt from this arrangement.
*Palliative Payments Extended*
To further support public servants, Adeleke has also approved the extension of palliative payments for the next two months, pending the implementation of the new minimum wage ¹. All accounting officers have been directed to comply with this directive.
Adeleke’s administration has prioritized workers’ welfare, ensuring prompt payment of salaries, pensions, and gratuities. The governor has also assured retirees that outstanding gratuities will be paid gradually.
Labour leaders, including NLC Chairman Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, have commended Adeleke’s efforts to improve workers’ lives, particularly his commitment to paying the new N70,000 minimum wage.
